VI.

The rest of the day continued almost as if nothing happened. With one exception... The doubts were gone. It was just the two of them. Together again. And it was probably the best day of her life.

When she put Timmy in bed in the evening, she sat down on the chair in his room and couldn’t stop staring at him. She was bewitched. Her prayers were answered. She replayed her memories again and again, both from the church and from the day that was ending, and she was more and more sure she was right. It had to be it. She got a second chance and she didn’t want to waste it.

She was sitting for hours in the room. The Moon appeared in the sky and the whole room was bathed in its cold light. She finally moved. She got up and silently paced towards the window and longingly watched the magical celestial. Her tears were glistening in its glow. She suddenly knew what she had to do.

She got out of the room, got dressed and went to her car. She looked around and saw thousands of lights glowing in the night. She once again moved her sight to the Moon. It was a perfect circle, looking like an eye watching the world below. She made herself stop staring and got inside the car.

She started it up, chose the destination and the car silently lifted into the air. The Moon was now taking up the whole windscreen almost as if it was the destination of her midnight trip. This must be another sign.

After a few moments, the car landed. Even though it has been a while since she was here, she was surprised to find nothing changed. She opened the door and was welcomed by another blow of the wind. She got goosebumps on the naked parts of the body and shiver went down her spine. She closed the door and looked around. The street was silent. Not a soul to be seen. Only a few lights in the windows and several neon billboards on some of the buildings.

When her eyes met the red glow of the red cross, she got anxious and her heartbeat was once again feeling like she was running a marathon. When she moved her head and focused on the dark gothic church, she felt a strange aura coming out of the place. Almost like the weight has been lifted from her shoulders and her heart calmed down. Another sign.

She slowly closed the distance towards the place, where she sought out in her darkest hour a few months back. She was looking for meaning, back then. An explanation. Someone to blame. Someone she can shout at and make herself feel better. Everything is different now. The world had changed. Her situation had changed. She had changed.

She pushed the big old wooden door of the church that stood there as a protector of the sacred place. Silent squeak followed, but the opening itself was easy. She went in, the door closing behind her.
